With the Veil Removed

I kept sending my son my thoughts and finally, tiring of the barrage, he encouraged me to write a blog. He probably, more than most, is grateful for the one who invented the blog!

The naming of the blog, was not quite so easy.

This verse came to mind... “And all of us have had that veil removed so that we can be mirrors that brightly reflect the glory of the Lord. And as the Spirit of the Lord works within us, we become more and more like him and reflect his glory even more.” 2 Cor 3:18 NLT

In Exodus 34, Moses had ascended Mount Sinai to meet with God and receive the Ten Commandments. “When Moses was coming down from Mount Sinai, he did not know that the skin of his face shone because of his speaking with Him.” And the people were afraid to come near him so Moses would put a veil over his face until he went in before the Lord to speak with Him.

Now however, we have access to the very throne of God through Jesus Christ our Lord and our faces, our very countenances should brightly reflect his glory because we have met with Him! Hence, the name of the blog….I so desire the thoughts I explore to brightly reflect His glory because I’ve met with Him.

The older I become, the more I realize how many times I embrace ideas, thoughts, beliefs at face value depending on who I'm listening to. This is reinforced because we have a tendency to surround ourselves with people who think exactly like we do. We rarely venture outside our comfort zone into relationships with people who think radically different than we and who force us to not only examine what we think about an issue and believe on a heart level, but articulate those thoughts. We become so comfortable with our little groups that a topic can come up and everyone begins to nod in agreement before a thought is ever uttered!

So this is my exploration of a thought….an exploration of how God's word translates into my daily life. If the word of God does not intersect the activities of your daily life in a meaningful, life changing way, we’re not reading the same book. After entire conversations about God….or Jesus, with various people who describe themselves in ways relating to faith, often I’ve decided we’re just not talking about the same Person. They didn’t read the book I read. If I’m outside your comfort zone and think radically different than you, I encourage you to just read The Book. He doesn’t speak to the masses. He speaks to us one on one.

May our faces shine because we've been with Him. Lit up, glowing... because we've been in His presence!
